How to make changes in Income Tax Return (ITR) filing online or offline

After filing income tax returns, if you feel that you have missed the ITR or have been left something necessary during filling ITR, there is no need to worry about it now. You can improve your ITR within a certain period of time from the e-filing portal of the Income Tax department. However, if you have manually filled the ITR, it cannot be improved through any electronic or online means. The revised ITR means the ITR is filled with correction under section 139 (5) of the Income Tax Act.

The step-by-step process of filling up the revised ITR online is as follows:

  • First, log on to the e-filing portal https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home of the income tax department.
  • Log in to the e-filing portal with your PAN number, password, and captcha code.
  • Click on the E-File menu and then click on the link to Income Tax Return.
  • Your pan number will be filled with itself on the Income Tax Return page.
  • Now choose assessment year and ITR form number.
  • Now in 'Filing Type' Select the option 'Revised Return.'
  • Then click on 'Prepare and Submit Online' in submission mode.
  • Select 'Revised' in 'Revival Return Under Section 139(5) and 'Return Filing Type' in the return Filing Section in the online ITR form under the 'General Information' tab.
  • Now select the 'acknowledgment number' recorded in the original ITR and the date of filing the ITR.
  • Now fill in the relevant information and then correct it and submit ITR.
  • E-verify the return.

The process of verifying Income Tax Return electronically is as follows:

Through Aadhaar OTP: Aadhaar is required to be linked to the pan to file ITR. In such cases, the textiles can click on ' generated Aadhaar OTP ' after logging into the e-filing portal. Now you will receive OTP on registered mobile number. This OTP will be valid for only 10 minutes. Enter OTP at the specified location to verify the ITR. You will then receive an acknowledgment of the registered email ID.

Through EVC generated e-Filling Portal: If your income is less than Rs 5 lakh, you can verify your ITR through the e-filing portal.
